A PRESTIGIOUS orchestra more used to performing at world famous concert halls has played its debut concert in the front room of a Herefordshire home.

Fresh from touring European cities such as Madrid, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Leo String Quartet performed in Kington on Sunday.

The intimate show was a birthday surprise for Winifred Joyce Mayglothling, who turned 94 on Monday.

As well as a one-off treat for Winifred, who has lived at the 300-year-old Tack Barn Farm for 70 years, it was an unusual experience for the professional musicians who had never before performed in someone’s front room.

An audience of 17 friends and family enjoyed the music of Mozart and Dvorak at the show which was organised by Winifred’s granddaughter Claire Farrell.
