VET from Kington has set off on an epic 9,000-mile trip across the world.
While a solo journey from England to South Africa is no easy feat, Ian Wright is undertaking it on his bike and hoping his two-wheel adventure will raise £10,000 for the Born Free wildlife charity.
The 27-year-old, who works at the Arrowfield Veterinary Group in Kington, started from West Kirby, on the Wirral in Merseyside, on Monday and will cycle through Western Europe, along the Nile in Egypt, through Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia to reach Cape Town.
Ian, who has South African parents, said he felt compelled to do the trip as Africa has been a draw his entire life.
“I can't remember when I first decided to travel overland across Africa. I think that desire has always been there, lurking at the back of my mind,” he said.
Ian’s bike is nicknamed Elsa after the lioness of Born Free movie fame and money raised will help the Born Free Foundation keep animals in the wild.
