THE site of a former Herefordshire nursing home could be turned into a wedding and civil ceremony venue.

Lemore Manor in Eardisley hit the headlines in 2004 when, as Campbell Manor nursing home, it was subject to an immediate closure order because of its poor standards.

Now, under a new name and different owners, plans have been drawn up to turn the building into a venue capable of hosting wedding celebrations, art exhibitions and workshops. The retrospective plans also include a 15-bedroom selfcatering unit for guests to hire.

The applicant, Margaret Owen, says Lemore Manor will be a five-star venue with an emphasis on being ‘green’ for customers wishing to consider their carbon footprint.

The manor, set in 11 acres, can house around 30 guests, with room for up to eight more in the coach house. Interest in the venue has been high since it opened in November 2007 with bookings already received from businesses and those celebrating family birthdays.

Mrs Owen says she intends to make use of businesses throughout Herefordshire for services such as taxi hire, catering and hairdressing.

The application also asks for the occasional use of up to 10 marquees in its grounds, as well as permission for staff, management or guests to stay in the coach house.

A decision on whether the plans are given the go-ahead is likely to be made by late November.
