A PRESTEIGNE councillor who retired earlier this year after 32 years has been honoured in a surprise ceremony with family and friends.

Town resident Evelyn Davies was treated to a champagne reception at the Radnorshire Arms in the presence of her children and grandchildren, where current mayor Colin Kirkby praised her service and pointed out she was mayor herself a record five times during her career.

“Evelyn was on the council when I joined and was always a great council member who looked after the town well. We will all miss her knowledge and her friendship,” he said.

He then presented Evelyn with an engraved cut glass bowl on behalf of the council.

Evelyn thanked everyone for the gift and said: “I did enjoy being on the council but I have quite a lot of grandchildren that I would like to spend more time with. We had some great times.”
