WEOBLEY students who joined forces to collect village litter have picked up a county award along the way.
Both primary and secondary pupils were given a Streetscene charter from Herefordshire Council after meeting with residents to tackle stray rubbish.
Villagers like Pru Lloyd and Amy Hewitt helped out to show litter problems exist in all areas of Herefordshire.
Jane Denny, Eco-School co-ordinator, said: “We are lucky in Weobley to have people like Pru and Amy who regularly pick up litter in the village and prevent it from becoming a major problem.
However, we did find several bags loads of rubbish even on our short litter pick from the schools down into the centre of the village and the pupils certainly got the message that they shouldn’t drop litter because it will either create an eyesore or someone will have to be paid to remove it.”
Streetscene signs and litter bins have been given to Weobley High School and Weobley Primary School to mark their new status.
