Hereford pals on course to add to £30,000 for dementia funds

TWO friends have more reason than most to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Wayne Barton and Chris Cole have both seen loved ones affected by dementia, which prompted them to start an annual golf day to collect money for the charity.

Now in its third year, the events have raised more than £30,000 for the society and the pair hope this year’s challenge on Friday (Sep 14) at Belmont
Golf Club will raise a further £10,000.

Wayne, from Kings Acre, Hereford, saw his mother live with the illness for more than eight years before she died almost three years ago.

Meanwhile Chris, an electrician from Madley, has helped his wife Hazel in her battle with Alzheimer’s for almost five years.

The pair said: “We decided to organise this golf day for the Alzheimer’s Society
because we wanted to give something back to say thanks for all their support
during some extremely difficult times.

“We have been friends for many years while we played local football for and against each other and we enjoy playing golf so it was a joint decision to raise money for the society by organising these golf days.

“It’s great to think that we will be raising funds to help support people and their
families who live with dementia to and help fund research to find a cure for
tomorrow.”

There will be an auction of sports memorabilia and a prize draw on the day.

A hole-in-one will secure a brand new car while other prizes will be on offer to
those finishing in the top 10.

The cost of entry will be £140 per team of four.
