Herefordshire Council delays search for new chief executive

HEREFORDSHIRE Council is to put off its search for a new chief executive.

At a meeting yesterday afternoon, the council's employment panel deferred any decision on the appointment so other senior management models could be explored.

The meeting heard Councillor Mark Hubbard question whether the role of chief executive should exist at at all and propose a “time out” to explore other options.

The panel then went into secret session to debate the impact of this on individual senior officers.

Any decision on the council's top job could now go on into the new year with interim arrangements in place once current chief executive Christ Bull leaves in October.

The panel did agree that the initial £80,000 to £90,000 estimate for the search for a new chief executive - should the post be considered necessary - could be scaled back considerably to around £20,000 to £30,000.

In all fairness, a sensible decision from HC.

Pleased to see what looks on the surface a good decision on both a post review and level of expenditure.

Why is nobody within the HC authority deemed able enough to fill this position?

Do we really need one, have we not got enough highly paid officers at the moment, they would do well to start looking at why people who live in Herefordshire are getting ripped off at all levels, food, fuel, ect
