Flood defence holds up after heavy rain

The first test of Hereford’s Yazor Brook Flood defence system has gone “exactly as we wanted it to”, according to those behind it.
Hereford Futures praised the work of the £4million Yazor Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme which has been put to work during the recent downpours.
“It’s doing exactly what it said on the can,” said Charles Pickles, project engineer.
“The water we have had recently would, before the alleviation scheme, have headed straight into the city.”
The scheme, installed last year, aims to minimise the risk of flooding to homes and businesses in the Edgar Street and Newtown Road areas of Hereford.
Floodwater is now diverted from the brook at Credenhill, where it passes through a submerged one-mile culvert into the River Wye near Breinton.
