A SOLDIER from Herefordshire who died over the weekend in the north of England has been named.

Kurt Etheridge, aged 21, was killed on the A1 near Darlington shortly after 3am on Sunday morning.

Police say Kurt, who used to go to Kingstone High School and was undergoing Army training in north Yorkshire, was walking along the road when he was hit by a lorry.

Family friend Tina Haile said Kurt's parents, Debbie and Mark Barnes, this week described their son as "such a loving man".

"Kurt was such a gorgeous boy," said Tina. "It's such a waste of life."
