A young boy with a rare illness which has seen him undergo seven operations in the first three years of his life is on the road to recovery.

Max Stacey of Tupsley, Hereford, was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease at just four weeks.

The condition causes a blockage of the large intestine due to improper muscle movement in the bowel and affects around one in every 7,500 boys.

Max, now three, is attending mainstream nursey. His mum, Bev is wants to raise money for children’s charity Breakaway which provides activity breaks for youngsters with bowel or bladder dysfunctions and their families.

She is hosting a ball on May 12 at Hereford Shirehall for the group.
