NINETIES pop star Chesney Hawkes - famous for his catchy song The One and Only - is to officially open Yates's in Hereford.

The chart-topper will be at the Commercial Road venue for the launch on Thursday, March 29.

The One and Only reached number one in the UK charts in 1991 and was the soundtrack for the film Buddy's Song, in which Chesney starred as the title character.

He released a further seven songs, but none of them made any impact in the charts, with his 2005 hit Another Fine Mess, which reached number 48, being his biggest single in more than a decade.

He has appeared in many television programmes though, including The Games, in which he finished third, and he briefly appeared in a cherry picker in Celebrity Big Brother in 2009.

He was due to star in the current series of Dancing on Ice, but had to pull out after fracturing his ankle and was replaced by Chico Slimani.

Meanwhile, Radio One's Aled Haydn Jones has been announced as the special guest at Yates's on Saturday, March 31.

The Welshman presents the Surgery slot on Sunday nights and has worked in the Chris Moyles Show since 2004.

Yates's replaces the Litten Tree, which will close on Sunday.

Ledbury darts ace Terry "the Bull" Jenkins will also be at Yates's on June 27 when he will take on 20 people.

Tickets - which will be entered into a draw- are £10 and can be purchased from the pub once it has opened.
