STAFF at Hereford’s Courtyard Theatre are worried that roadworks due to take place on Edgar Street next week could have an adverse effect on their business.
Overnight work began this week in nearby Holmer Road and is due to continue along the A49 up to the Newmarket roundabout from Tuesday.
The Hereford Times reported the plans last Thursday and Martyn Green, chief executive of The Courtyard, said that was the first he had heard about them.
“The Courtyard was not informed of any planned closures, instead learning about the works from the Hereford Times,” he said.
He added that throughout the duration of the works on Edgar Street, The Courtyard will remain open as usual, with access to the venue maintained.
“We are liaising with the Highways Agency to find out exactly how this will happen, although as yet, no details have been confirmed,” he added.
“We strongly advise those attending evening shows to leave extra time for their journeys.”
The planned work is due to be completed by March 2.
Highways Agency spokesperson Jo Carroll said that all affected residents and businesses, including The Courtyard, were hand delivered letters on February 7 and 8 – before last week’s Hereford Times went out.
