A GARAGE workshop was damaged by fire in Allensmore last night.
Two fire engines from Hereford, one from Ewyas Harold and the water carrier from Ross-on-Wye were called at 9.35pm.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and positive ventilation equipment to put out the fire, which damaged six jet washers and a transit van that were inside the workshop.
Watch commander Neil Fowler said that the fire was under control by 11pm, but the task was made more difficult by the icy temperatures, which caused the water crews were using to freeze, causing hazardous conditions underfoot.
He added that the fire is believed to have started in some industrial jet washing machinery in the workshop, which spread to nearby vehicles.
