POLICE have admitted they were surprised by the large amount of Birmingham City supporters that turned up to watch their team face Hereford United in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Around 2,600 Blues fans descended onto the city, with hundreds unable to see their team draw 0-0 with Jamie Pitman's men.

Sgt Dave Roberts, Football Liaison Officer for Hereford, said that the police had only expected around 400 fans to turn up.

"The vast majority had simply turned up to enjoy the match and back their team, but we needed to commit extra officers to policing the city centre and outside the stadium due to the unusually high numbers," he said.

Three arrests were made - two for breach of the peace and one for theft.

If so do you think the unusually high away following was handled well by both the club and the police?
