Courtyard Theatre’s search for a good cause

A CALL has gone out for a local charity to link up with a Hereford centre for the arts.

The Courtyard, based in Edgar Street, is searching for a local charity to join it for its Christmas appeal, which will run alongside the annual pantomime.

Anyone who runs a charity and would like to raise both its profile and extra funds is now being urged to contact the venue.

This year, Aladdin will be performed from November 26 to January 8, with donations collected over the festive period split between The Courtyard and its partner charity.

This joint appeal has been running for three years and, thanks to the generosity of local people, more than £28,000 has been raised.

During this time The Courtyard, which is also a registered charity, has raised money for The Renton Unit in 2007, Acorns Children’s Hospice in 2008 and the Little Princess and Noah’s Ark Trust as a joint appeal last year.

Lucy Wells, business development manager at The Courtyard, said: “We have always selected our partner charities for this annual appeal on the basis of a particular wish of a member of staff.

“This year, we thought we would do things a bit differently and invite interested charities to apply to us .

“We think this will be more democratic and make us potentially aware of charities that we might not have considered inviting to partner with us.

“Each applicant will be considered on its own merits and the appeal will, as always, raise money for The Courtyard as well as the selected charity.

“This is a great opportunity for local charities to raise their profile as well as raise money.”

An application form can be downloaded at courtyard.org.

uk or picked up from The Courtyard box office.

The deadline is Friday, September 24. Charities must be based locally but can cover a wider area in their work.
