A DETECTIVE has told a court of the moment he arrested a colleague of 15 years.

Detective sergeant Neil Walker, from West Mercia Constabulary's professional standards unit, called to the Bartestree home of Geoffrey Alan Gough at 7am and told him he was arresting him for an alleged sexual assault, Gloucester Crown Court heard.

DS Walker told Gough the alleged assault happened after two girls had got into his car and said officers would be searching his house and looking through his computer.

The jury was told that Gough responded: "I was just doing them a favour. There is nothing on my computer. I'm GG - that's Geoff Gough, not Gary Glitter. I did nothing to them."

DS Walker, who told the court he had known Gough for 15 years, said nothing incriminating was found on Gough's computer or mobile phone.

Fiona Elder, prosecuting, said two drunk teenage girls got into Gough's car on April 12 of last year.

She told the jury last week that Gough then drove the girls to the Tesco store in Belmont and claims the former detective put his hand down the younger girl's underwear.

Gough drove off alone when the older 17-year-old sought help for her 13-year-old friend from three Welsh men in the car park, Ms Elder added.

Gough, aged 55, and now living at Spring Gardens, Malvern, denies sexual activity with a child and attempted kidnap.

The trial continues.
