FOR 20 years Val Fortey has come to work looking to make a difference. Over that time, the reward for her efforts was in seeing the people she’s helped who will “always come up and speak.”
This week, Val had a formal thank you for her two decades with Hereford funeral directors S A Evans, a long service salute from Dignity Caring Funeral Services, of which S A Evans is now part.
Val started in the admin office before moving into arranging funerals and, by 1999, she was the firm’s community manager.
She says she’s lost none of the empathy and sympathy she first brought to her job, nor the simple pleasure she takes in a funeral that runs smoothly. And there’s many who can testify to her work.
“When I’m out and about, families will come up and speak, some from a long time ago,” said Val.
She planned a quiet celebration of her special anniversary as the big bash comes next month with her 50th birthday.
