TWO Herefordshire schools are to start the new termas academies.
Hereford Steiner Academy, once the Waldorf School, at Much Dewchurch has £17,000 in European funding to explore new qualification options through Steiner schools on the continent.
The academy, which faced a real battle through the planning process to achieve its status, is one of only two Steiner schools in the UK chosen to test European initiatives in education.
Principal Trevor Mepham said that the project had the potential to see the learning and achievement of students recognised across European boundaries.
Wyebridge Sports College, in south Hereford, becomes an academy, continuing its well-documented improvement over recent years.
Now the Hereford Academy, it will continue to specialise in sport, science and health, with its all-newsite expected to be built by 2010.
