Morgan family’s quest for justice moves a step nearer

1:56pm Tuesday 29th April 2008

AN MP has welcomed the progress of investigations into the unsolved murder of a Hay-on-Wye woman’s private detective son.

Five former police detectives have been arrested in connection with the death of Daniel Morgan, whose mother Isobel Hulsmann lives in the town.

Brecon and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams said: “I hope this will bring some relief to Daniel Morgan’s family. I know that Mr Morgan’s brother and mother have been very active in ensuring a conclusion is brought to this case.” Mr Morgan was found with an axe in his head in a London car park in 1987.

Mr Williams said he had raised the issue at various times both with the Home Office and in Parliament,” The arrests were made on Monday as part of the fifth investigation into the murder and involved five men aged 47 to 61.

Three of the men returned to a central London police station on bail after previously being arrested on suspicion of Mr Morgan’s murder in 2006, while the other two attended a police station by appointment and were subsequently arrested on the same charge.

A sixth man, a 24-year-old serving police constable, was also arrested at his workplace in relation to recent events linked to the five arrests rather than the murder itself.

AC John Yates, who heads the investigation, said: “The one consistent theme has been the astonishing determination of the Morgan family to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
