Hereford United legend Sheedy diagnosed with cancer

HEREFORD United legend Kevin Sheedy has been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

The 52-year-old made more than 50 appearances for the Bulls in the late 1970s before moving on to Everton where he played 369 times and was part of the squad which won the FA Cup in 1984.

The Builth Wells-born midfielder, whose family still live in the county, also went on to represent the Republic of Ireland in the 1990 World Cup, scoring against England.

Sheedy is currently academy coach at Everton.

Speaking to the Premier League club’s website he said: “It’s not ideal but I have to remain positive.

“After a period of rehabilitation I will return to my coaching role at Everton.”
