POWYS pupils have again achieved excellent A-level results.

Fifty-one per cent of grades were A*, A and B, with five per cent at grade A* and a further 19 per cent at grade A.

Stephen Rogers, Powys County Council's Head of Schools, said: "These are excellent results that clearly reflect the dedication and hard work of pupils and teachers in Powys schools.

"Our warm congratulations go to all the young people on their well deserved achievements and to all those who have supported them throughout their school careers. We wish all the students every success for the future."

DESPITE not having topped last years 55 per cent A* and A grade A-levels, Lucton School's results are still something to shout about.

All students at the school near Leominster achieved their full potential and are heading off to universities that will suit them, whether they're straight A students or C grade students.

STUDENTS from Christ College Brecon are on their way to some of the UK’s top universities after achieving outstanding A-level results

Pupils from the independent co-educational school achieved a 99.5 per cent overall A*- E pass rate.

Thanks to the great results, a number of students can now go on to study at some of the best universities in the UK, such as Llew Davies, from Brecon, who will go to Oxford university to study chemistry, and Richard Edwards from Cyncoed, Cardiff, who will now study maths at St Andrews University, Edinburgh.

Christ College Head Teacher Emma Taylor said: “The pressure on pupils to perform at the top level has never been higher, with many of the top courses and universities heavily oversubscribed.

"In such a climate I am incredibly proud of our leavers for keeping their cool and performing at their very best in the examinations. They are not only impressive academically, but show real ambition, endeavour and determination, too.”

THE HEADMISTRESS of Malvern St James girls' school has said she is 'immensely proud' of all the girls for their 'spectacular' A-level results.

Patricia Woodhouse said: "We are immensely proud of the girls and all their outstanding achievements; we wish them every success in their future studies.

"The results reflect dedicated, first-class teaching and facilities, personally-tailored career advice and an aspirational environment, where a girl’s potential is limitless."

Twenty-six per cent of girls were awarded the top A* grade while 28 per cent gained straight A*and A grades, and one student secured A* in all six of her A Level subjects.

A further 61 per cent of the girls achieved grades A*- B, with an overall pass rate of 99.6 per cent. The AS grades were equally outstanding with 46 per cent achieving grade A and 69 per cent grade A - B.

IT is a year of personal bests, as Hereford's Cathedral School also saw the best A-level results the school has ever recorded.

Not a single student failed an exam, with 56.4 per cent of all grades achieved either A* or A.

The school's strong tradition in art and art textiles was maintained, with every single art student achieving an A*, placing both departments amongst the very best in the UK.

Headmaster Paul Smith said: "I am delighted by our superb A-level results which are getting better and better every year. 

"These fantastic results are testament to all the hard work of our students and staff. Our students can now proceed with confidence to the universities of their choice."

Many students will now go on to some of the best universities in the country, including 18-year-old Emily Burdett from Burghill, Hereford, who is looking forward to studying classics at Oxford.

Emily, who achieved two A*s and an A in her A-levels said: "I'm so pleased with my results and want to thank my teachers for helping me achieve them. I'm just so happy as the results were exactly what I wanted."

STUDENTS at Bedstone College in Bucknell achieved some of the best A Level results in its history.

“In particular it is good to see that despite the number of A* and A grades falling nationally, A* and A grades this year at Bedstone are the best ever," said headmaster David Gajadharsingh.

"We are very proud of our students. They have worked hard and deserve great praise for their achievements.

"Worthy of a special mention are Christopher Rawlinson, who achieved one A* and three A grades, and Rupert Sheppard who impressed with three A grades."

Christopher will study natural sciences and Rupert veterinary science at university next year.

"I would like to thank not only the students for their hard work and commitment but also the fine group of teachers with whom I work here at Bedstone,” said Mr Gajadharsingh.

PUPILS and teachers at Monmouth schools are celebrating after a great set of A-level results.

The schools saw 80.42 per cent  A*- B grades at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls and 83.7 per cent  A*- B grades at Monmouth School.

Monmouth School recorded their best ever results, with 61 per cent of the grades awarded being A* or A and a 100 per cent pass rate.

Headmaster Dr Steven Connors said he was 'delighted' to have received the 'best ever A-level results' and said it was a 'testament to the hardwork and focus of the boys and the excellent teaching' at the school.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls also recorded a 100% pass rate, and Headmistress Helen Davy said: "I am extremely proud of the girls’ achievements. 

"After London 2012, we can see that with hard work, dedication and excellent teaching many of our girls achieved their own gold, silver and bronze. The vast majority met or exceeded their own personal best and will be able to take up their first choice universities."

As well as gaining places in the UKs most prestigious universities, a number of pupils from the schools will take places overseas in universities such as the University of California.

Meanwhile, Monmouth Comprehensive School achieved the highest percentage of A* and As ever recorded at the school.

Vaughan Davies, one of the school's headteachers, praised staff and students for all their hard work, care and commitment.

He said: "Student's parents will be very proud of their achievements and the whole community will want to celebrate their success. Our young people are the future and this level of success has put them right out in front in taking a lead in that future."

THE HEADTEACHER of John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye has praised the efforts of students, their parents, staff and governors at the school for this year's 'outstanding' A-level results.

The school’s largest ever entry saw a 100 per cent pass rate at A Level, together with 58 per cent  A*- B grades and 86 per cent at A* - C.

Departments with over 70 per cent A*- B grades include mathematics, physics, French, German, chemistry, business studies, art and design, PE and food technology.

Many students will now go on to university, such as Callum Moore who will study Aerospace Engineering at Swansea University and Zoe Keighley who will study Applied Geology at the University of Exeter.

Headteacher Nigel Griffiths said: "These results have embedded Ofsted’s grading of the school as 'Outstanding'.

"Students’ successes have allowed them to access university courses across the UK at a time when pressure on university entrants is at an all-time high.

"I am, as ever, ambitious for continued improvements in years to come."

THE FIRST lot of students ever to complete their A-levels at the newly built Earl Mortimer College and Sixth Form Centre in Leominster have set the bar high.

The college has seen a 94 per cent A*- E pass rate, a 45 per cent A*- C pass rate, a 17 per cent A*- B pass rate and 47 per cent of students gained distinction at BTEC.

To add to the success of the college - which recently spent £22million building the new Sixth Form centre - students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in geography, physics, biology, product design, fine art, French, history, P.E and 100 per cent pass rates in all BTEC courses.

Principal Adrian Long said: "We are proud of our students for their overwhelming success. Their vote of confidence in this new college and its teachers has been rewarded.

" We wish them the very best for their next steps at university and industry".

LADY Hawkins School in Kington has seen a 97 per cent A-level pass rate this year.

Twenty students sat 62 examinations between them, with the overall A level A*-E pass rate coming in at 97 per cent, with 20 per cent at A*- A, 24 per cent at A*- B and 65 per cent at A*- C.

One-hundred per cent of students gained two or more passes at A*- E and 90 per cent of students secured three or more passes at A*- E.

Headteacher Gary House said: "We aim to provide sustained high-quality education for our students. Students, staff and parents have much to celebrate in this set of results.

"All of this reflects high standards of learning and teaching. This results set is due reward for the hard work and dedication of staff, students and their families.

"I want to say ‘well done’ to all concerned."

STUDENTS at John Masefield High School in Ledbury have set a new record with their A-Level results.

Thirty-nine per cent of Year 13 students received A* or A grades – an increase on the previous best of 32 per cent set three years ago.

In German and Spanish, 100% of students achieved A* - B grades.

In accountancy, business studies, chemistry, drama, English, French, further maths, geography, German, history, ICT, maths, music, physics and psychology over 50% of candidates achieved A* - B grades.

As well as that, 77% of all students achieved grade C or higher and the pass rate was 99.5%.

Headteacher Andy Evans said: "Once again the hard work of students, inspirational teaching from staff and strong support from parents has resulted in great success for our Sixth Form Students.

"It is fantastic to see the efforts and endeavours rewarded and every student has deserved their success. We are proud of each and every one of our students and wish them continued success in the future."
