Licence revoked at Hereford store

A HEREFORD shop which evaded thousands of pounds in duty by selling contraband alcohol has this morning had its licence revoked.

European Fresh Foods on Eign Street had thousands of cans of beer, along with vodka, seized following a visit by trading standards officers last month.

Investigations later revealed that unpaid duty on the high-strength Polish beers totalled more than £2,500 while the evaded duty on the vodka stood at £132.

Herefordshire Council’s Regulatory Sub-Committee decided to revoke the licence.

Jim Mooney, licensing officer in Hereford for West Mercia Police, had earlier told the committee that every opportunity had been taken to let the licence holder know what was happening but he has not been in contact.

Clubber2000, It's going to be difficult for us Chavs. I'm heartbroken. Its not just the above named coma inducing drinks that I'm going to miss but also the illicit tobacco sales and the numerous unlawfully caught species of fish from the Wye and Lugg that are now deprived to me and my kin.
The good news is though, there are other similar shops in the City doing exactly the same thing and I am confident that they w'ont stop trading illegally despite the laws that exist in our Country designed to stop this form of criminal activity.

This is the 3rd time this place has had their license revoked in less than 2 years.

It was raided in December 2010, March 2011 and revoked. Again in July this yeah and yet again this month.

All they do is register it in someone elses name and open again. It's a joke.

Foreigners ARE a problem in this city. You only have to look at the front page of this website to see how how much news is attributed to them, protection rackets, illegal trading, fights, deaths, vandalism, social housing and benefits....

A lot of these so called European shops have very little stock in them. Just take a look at what they have on the shelves, they are not fully stocked. The shops seem to be far to big for the stock they have out on the shop floor. Where are they making their money ? Why aren't alarm bells ringing. Something doesn't add up

Biomech, I'm as angry as you for the way our society can be taken advantage of but you have to keep some sort of perspective on this. The East Europeans aint all responsible for the way in which these shops conduct themselves and they aint responsible for all of the horrible crime patterns that we are experiencing in Hereford. Come on kiddo. Some perspective is needed here. My warmest regards to you.

@Biomech - It's sad to see you have such an attitude towards foreigners but it is one that's all to common in this area.

Luckily, there are many of us who are open to change and welcome those who are not local to the area. With a town the size of Hereford, small mindedness can be expected but shouldn't be tolerated. The things you say are the very reasons that integration between communities is sometimes very difficult.

For the most, our European friends come here to work and to contribute to the economy. You say that 'foreigners' are responsible for most of the bad news we see on here? How do you base this assumption? There are plenty of Herefordian numptys who make a pretty good job of the things you are referencing. The population of 'non-British white' in the county is 7800 which is approximately 4% of the total. Are you implying that this 4% minority is are the root of all evil because that's the vibe I'm getting from your post.

A lot of migrant workers I know are doing sh**y jobs for crap money and living in poor accomodation. There's plenty of Herefordians who could do this work but chose to sponge off the state instead.

Oh, and only 7% of immigrants claim benefits against 17% of the indigenous population so you can't knock them for that as well.

And I agree with bobby47 that you can't tarnish a whole race based on the wrongdoings of one of their shops.

"@Biomech - It's sad to see you have such an attitude towards foreigners but it is one that's all to common in this area."

You know, I used to like them. When they came here and worked and bought things and contributed.

Then I tolerated them as they started to stay and have babies and take benefits, houses and school placements from local people.

Now I've had enough.

"For the most, our European friends come here to work and to contribute to the economy."

Not anymore they don't. They spend their days in alleyways drinking cheap beer and claiming benefits. They USED to spend their money here - and I welcomed it, I used to work in retail and the summers were fantastic with the foreigners buying things. Now they don't.

Now they work only to send the money "back home". Now they import their cheap PL/LV/ES cars to drive - I'm sure even you have noticed an increase in the foreign number plates on the road. Now they open have dedicated isles in supermarkets where local/British products used to be, they open their own shops to sell their own products to other migrants - not locals.

"You say that 'foreigners' are responsible for most of the bad news we see on here"

No I didn't.

I'm more than happy to have migrant workers, I welcome it. But we need a limit and points system like Canada, Australia and everywhere else in the world so that we get quality legal migrant workers in. The UK is a free for all for extremists and worthless and illegal immigrants.

I actually know of a Lithuanian girl who has never even visited the UK but has friends living here, she actually phoned one of her friends that lives here to say that she's got herself pregnant and is thinking of moving here because of our benefits and housing system!!! No intention of working!!!

After writing that comment last night, my RSS feed for the Hereford Times updated. Lo and behold; "Hereford man victim of 'sneak-in' burglary.......The householder says the man spoke in broken English with a foreign accent."

Sure we have plenty of English scum, but the ratio of good to dodgy people is far greater with the foreigners.

We are where we are and no moaning and groaning is going to change a single thing. We're in a global economy and people from the poor and impoverished East European, former communist states will continue to come to the United Kingdom and take advantage of our generous society. If I were from East Europe and I'd had their life then I too would be here with my family trying to prosper and have a better future. Yes, there are times when I feel we are being taken advantage of and asset stripped of our wealth, culture and heritage but these are people just like you and I. Just people.
This aint their fault. It's ours and that of our Politicians who have given us this problem to solve. We aint going to solve it bickering on and demonising a minority group.
Biomech my friend you are wrong and Lukio you are right. Me, I fall somewhere inbetween. My warmest regards.

It's our governments fault for being such ****. It's their fault for the trouble the cause.

I went to Tescos in town today, I can honestly say that I heard 2 English voices, a friend I saw and the cashier. If they all come here to have such a great time and work and prosper, why are there constantly hordes of them loitering around outside Tescos and the alleyways smoking and drinking.

Like I previously said, I had no problem before. But now it's gone to far and, quite frankly, I now find them (along with the English scum which I saw a large group of also in town), disgusting.

Please do not blame the people of Hereford of their attitude towards foreigners, it is not just in this area that has migrant workers. I have travelled to many cities and the same feeling is felt in all of them.
While this country has poor health care. housing and high unemployment the finger of blame is always going to be pointed at someone else. We need to all work together on this. I agree that we should slow down on how many migrant 'workers' we now let into here, nothing against them but we are full to overflowing, we can not cope anymore.
And for anyone who 'says' I am not living my life through 'rose coloured glasses'. My life has been very hard !!!
Not all the people of Hereford are hard faced moaning ******** !
