Hereford poised for 1,000 new jobs

TWO international aerospace companies have signed exclusivity agreements that could bring around 1,000 new hi-tech jobs to Herefordshire within the next three years.

The agreements, confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at a business conference in London today (Friday), give US-owned Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing (TAM) from Georgia and Ukraine’s Market-Mats sole rights to specific sites on the Hereford Enterprise Zone at Rotherwas at Model Farm, Ross -on-Wye.

The two companies plan to create at least 500 hi-tech jobs each at two advanced manufacturing campuses. As planned, each campus will have its own apprenticeship training school with at least 10 per cent of the workforce coming through the schools at any one time.

TAM, once one of the biggest aerospace manufacturers in the former Soviet Union, has a six month exclusivity deal on its site and Market-Mats 12 months.

Both companies had been favourites for Rotherwas, the exclusivity agreements mean the biggest ever business investment in the county is closed to completion.

It is not only weapons and aircraft they are building, but also drones to keep an eye on the plebs when they get out of hand!

Great news for our County. I sincerely hope that these'jobs' do become a reality for local British people and the positions are not swallowed up by our East European Community citizens. I would say to those who have their hands on the levers of power, 'take a chance on our kids' and give them the chance to flourish and prosper.

Lukio, I'll never agree with you on this issue. I know that you are probably right and I am likely to be wrong but alas, it's just the way I feel about this matter. The very limited opportunities local Hereford people have nowadays has made me question how we can sustain this path that some employer's have chosen. 'Jobs for British workers'. I dont think that is so wrong. My warmest regards to you.

@bobby47 - and my warmest regards to you, Sir. I totally agree that opportunities in Hereford are few and far between. We cannot wholly blame the migrant workers for the situation though. The blame lies with the system that allows this to happen and the greedy employers not paying a sustainable wage. Things need to change.

Lukio, thank you for your kind response. I agree with your comments and I too do not blame our East European visitors. If I had been brought up beneath the fist of poverty and the grinding remains of communism I'd be doing exactly the same thing as them. I'd be here, in Hereford, doing my best to prosper. That said, we have huge social problems within Hereford and perhaps open discussion like ours will encourage others in positions of influence to listen and perhaps do something. That said, I'm still going to chant my mantra, ' jobs for our local kids'.
