A NUMBER of roads remain closed in the county due to flooding.

They are the C1261 Hoarwithy road (by the Old Harp Inn), the A4172 Little Marcle road, the A438 Ledbury to Hereford road (by Bush Pitch) and the B4214 Ledbury to Bromyard road.

The B4224 road at Fownhope is passable with care though.

There has also been severe localised flooding north of the county, particularly in Orleton, Brimfield, Yarpole and Kingsland.

Hereford Fire and Rescue Service were called to 30 flood-related incidents between 8.30am and 10am, including cars being stuck and properties being flooded.

These include rescue boats being launched to rescue a car being stuck in floodwater in Llanwarne.

Anyone requiring sandbags are requested to contact their parish council in the first instance.

Motorists are also reminded to drive slowly and test the brakes, but do not drive through any roads that are closed due to flooding as it will wreck the engine.

Headlights must also be used when visibility is reduced.

How can a road be closed OR impassable? Impassable means closed, surely?

A lot of this local flooding wouldn't happen if the road gullies were kept clear - I've reported dozens of blocked ones to the Council in the last 6 months and none of them have been cleared. Even newly resurfaced sections of road have been left with grass growing out of gullies. Yet another service we pay for that the Council don't deliver.

Utter idiots were driving on the A4103 just outside Hereford at 9am this morning without any lights on and probably on their mobile phones totally oblivious to it all!
