Yet more wet weather washes over Herefordshire

WET weather has returned to Herefordshire but will not stop Shobdon Food and Flower Festival taking place this weekend.

Organisers of the three-day event near Leominster, due to get underway tomorrow (Friday), will go ahead as planned although there will be a park and ride service laid on to avoid water-logged car parks.

Visitors can catch the park and ride from Luctonians Rugby Club, while disabled visitors will still be able to park at the festival site itself.

Today's downpour comes on top of the 93.2mm of rain has already fallen in Hereford this month, nearly twice as much as the average for June.

Rain stops play

Heavy rain and windy conditions affected dozens events across the county last weekend with all Saturday cricket matches being cancelled and rising water levels on the River Wye causing problems for canoists.

The rain forced Kington Festival’s carnival gala day to be cancelled, although the town's popular wheelbarrow race did take place in the evening. The race was won by Joel Bayliss and Ed Bullock who crossed the finishing line in 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

Kington Festival committee member Matthew Scott said an alternative event will be held later in the year to compensate for the procession being cancelled.
