A festival takes place in the town next month, when The Monmouth Festival of Air relocates to Monmouth Show grounds on August 1. A showcase of breathtaking air displays will be held to celebrate the life of local legend and one half of the motoring powerhouse Rolls-Royce, Charles Rolls. Demonstrations include a drop in from the exciting Tigers Parachute Display Team and a colourful Kite festival organised by the Monmouth Rotary Club. A real treat is planned for the evening as the dreamy Monmouth Balloon Night Glow kicks off; in which hot air balloons will be choreographed to music and lit up to glow in the early evening darkness.
Also marking the centenary of his death, the European Rolls- Royce society will be driving in procession through the town in Rolls-Royces from all eras, stopping off at the memorial statue in Agincourt Square before visiting Rolls’ ancestral home at the Hendre.
