Woman at centre of Herefordshire schools plan takes up new role

THE woman in charge of children’s services across Herefordshire is to leave her post later this year.

Dr Sharon Menghini bore the brunt of parents’ anger in 2008 during the now-abandoned school merger plans.

She will take up a similar position with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, having left children’s services with a “performing well” rating by Ofsted.

“Children’s services is assessed as being effective and children receive a good start to their care and education with the performance of the service rated as better than in similar areas and nationally,” said Dr Menghini.

“I expect to see Herefordshire continue its performance and will always watch it with interest.”

Dr Menghini, who took up her role as director of children’s services in April 2007, will continue in her current position “for the next few months”.

The council will look for a replacement in due course.

Herefordshire Council chief executive Chris Bull said: “Sharon will leave Herefordshire with a very strong foundation for continued improvement and we wish her the best with her new opportunity.”
