Herefordshire runners spurred on thanks to clear goal

TWO Herefordshire runners raised funds for charity by taking on the London Marathon for two very different reasons.

Kate Stovold, from Stoke Prior, tackled the strenuous challenge in memory of her late brother to raise money for Megan Baker House (MBH).

Hereford runner Jon Edwards achieved his dream of completing the race to support Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Kate’s brother Jack had registered to run the London Marathon for MBH but tragically he was killed in a car accident last year. Kate decided to take his place and ran it in his memory.

Despite undergoing surgery a few weeks before the run, Kate completed the course with five friends, who also did it in Jack’s memory.

More than £15,000 was raised for the Variety Club Children’s Charity and MBH will now receive one of its mini-buses.

Meanwhile, city runner Jon Edwards raised £2,300 for Children’s Hospices UK, which support Acorns to help children with life limiting illness.

“It’s sometimes not easy to raise lots of money in these uncertain times, but I had great fun doing it,” said Mr Edwards, who completed the course in just over five hours, 31 minutes.
