THE Queen’s representative in Herefordshire is being celebrated at Hereford Cathedral this weekend.
Sir Thomas Dunne is standing down as Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire this month after 31 years service to the county.
Hereford Cathedral is marking his retirement with a celebration service today at 3pm.
The event is one of the last formal occasions to be attended by Sir Thomas and Lady Dunne during their current position.
Glyn Morgan, secretary of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust, believes there are countless others who want to thank the couple.
“There are few organisations in the county which have not been supported in some way by Sir Thomas and Lady Dunne,” he said.
“This will be an opportunity for us to say an immense thank you to them.”
Sir Thomas, of Gatley Park, near Wigmore, was appointed Lord Lieutenant for Hereford and Worcester in 1977 and retained the role when the counties spilt. He was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victoria Order (KCVO) in the 1995 New Year’s Honours List, and has met and represented the Royals on countless occasions.
The service is ticket-only and a limited number are available from the Perpetual Trust on 01432 374261.
