A WOMAN who died following an accident on a Herefordshire road has been named as 69 year-old Beatrice Davies, known as Maud.
The Presteigne resident was pronounced dead at the scene after the Ford Fiesta she was driving was in collision with a Peugeot 306 on the B4529 near Cholstrey.
Two ambulances and two emergency doctors were sent to the Leominster to Kingsland road after a number of calls at around 10.45pm on Wednesday night.
Murray MacGregor, press officer for the ambulance service, said: “When crews arrived they found three people were injured.
“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that it was not possible to save a woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Two (other) people, a man and a woman were trapped in the wreckage.
“The 20-year-old man was trapped for about an hour. He had suffered a fractured leg.
“The woman who was 18 had a serious pelvic injury; she was trapped for around about an hour and a quarter.
“Both were taken to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
Fire spokesperson Alec Mackie said two off duty firefighters happened to be passing straight after the collision and gave the casualties first aid, helping the man breathe properly.
“Two herefordshire retained fire fighters that were not on duty coincidentally came upon the scene of this tragic accident and immediately utilised their training and experience to quickly assess the situation and get the emergency services mobilised.
"They then did what they could for the casualties and gave first aid to those who were injured,” he said.
