Marden farm double death -update

POLICE have today announced they are keeping an open mind in their investigations into the deaths of two fruit farm workers.

The bodies of two workers were discovered at S&A Davies' Marden premises on Saturday and police have since begun an investigation into their deaths.

They were first called on to the site at 4.40am on Saturday when the body of a man was found.

And later that morning the body of another man was located at a different location on the site. Both men are believed to be Polish migrant workers.

Pete Butcher, police press officer, said: "Police are treating both deaths as unexplained and are keeping an open mind. Both of these appear to be unique tragedies in their own circumstances, unconnected with each other.

"Post mortem examinations have been carried out and, as a result, police are not looking for anyone else in connection with these deaths."

He added that police have maintained a higher presence within Marden village and the S&A site, to provide reassurance to the village and Polish communities.

That presence includes local community support officer who speaks Polish, he said.

The Herefordshire coroner has been informed and enquiries are in hand to notify the next-of-kin via the Polish embassy.

An inquest into the two deaths is expected to be opened and adjourned later in the week.
