Yarpole autumn fair

AUTUMN FAIR - Whatever the weather. it’s all indoors. The parish church doors open on Saturday at 2pm. The focus will be on family fun with games and competitions for children and stalls of home made sweets and cakes, bric-a-brac, local history, a photo competition, funny vegetables contest and flower arranging. The Gallery Cafe will provide the home made refreshments while a group of singers will entertain visitors. Those who want something different can enjoy pancakes cooked to order and a bar will be available. Yarpole ’s award winning shop-in-the-church will open. For anyone interested in the immediate future, the parish plan will be on display.

SHOP - Yarpole Community Shop is celebrating Community Shops Fortnight by hosting a volunteers’ evening and barbecue next Thursday, July 5, at 7pm at St Leonard’s Church. Anyone who would be interested in volunteering is invited. The shop, in the church, was voted best village shop and Post Office in the UK by the Countryside Alliance in 2010.

GALLERY AWARD - The Gallery Café at St Leonard’s has just completed a project enabled via Herefordshire Council’s Community Pride Grant Scheme. The café, which opened in early 2011 in the gallery above Yarpole Community Shop, has built up a reputation with local residents as well as regular visitors and growing numbers of walkers and day trippers. The grant has covered the cost of a new convection oven and a water heate, which will supply the kitchen with instant hot water throughout the summer months.

WALK AND CREAM TEA - On Easter Monday join a walk of about five miles around Bircher Common and the Fishpool Valley followed by tea at the church. Meet at Yarpole church at 1.45pm for a 2pm start. Non-walkers are welcome for tea from 4.15pm. £5 per adult in aid of the community project (children free).
