CONCERT - At Whitney Court (tomorrow) Friday, 7pm for 7.30pm start. KADOS (Kington and District Operatic Society) will perform with great panache ‘music from the shows’. FUND-RAISING - Whitney toll bridge will be free to all users this Saturday as the barriers are lifted in a fund-raising spree. Volunteers in fancy dress outfits will be keen to help you part with any spare coins, offer bacon rolls, tea and cake and a specially prepared local knowledge quiz. Crocodiles Pre-school in Whitney and Busy Bees from the other side of the border have been offered the opportunity to bucket shake on the bridge from 10am-4pm. Both are registered charities and rely on community support.

A CHIMNEY fire broke out at the historic Rhydspence Inn in Whitney-on-Wye. Fire crews from Eardisland, Kington and the Mid- Wales service were called to the 14th century pub near Hay-on-Wye at 12.20pm on Saturday, April 21. A small blaze started in a wood-burner but did not cause serious damage.

PRE-SCHOOL - The pre-school children at Whitney Crocodiles are now exploring the local woodlands. The children have been on weekly walks investigating local natural habitats, using natural resources to create dens and homes, exploring, climbing, playing, and experiencing the sense of freedom that comes with this. They enjoy a snack in the woods ensuring that good eco practises are maintained and nothing is left behind.

CROCODILES PRE-SCHOOL - Another busy term has seen the children celebrate Harvest, Diwali and Thanksgiving, rounding off with the Christian Nativity of baby Jesus, a highlight to the end of term. Parties and visits from Father Christmas will take place this week. The pre-school has a new committee which is very active. It has organised a Christmas fete which will be followed on Saturday with a Christmas fancy dress disco in the village hall open to children aged up to 11.

SONGS FROM THE SHOWS - Whitney Court is playing host to an evening concert titled Songs from the Shows featuring Kington and District Operatic Society.The concert is in aid of Whitney Church and Village Hall and will be held on Saturday. WALL REBUILDING - Lottery money is helping to pay for the restoration of a churchyard wall knocked down by a car at Whitney-on-Wye. Rebuilding the wall will be on Saturday and Sunday and anyone interested in dry-stone walling is invited to take part. There are still some places available and professional dry stone walling instructor Terry Mead will be supervising. AUTUMN FAIR - An autumn fair will take place on Saturday in the village hall. Doors open 2pm. There will be stalls, games, competitions and many more attractions for all ages. Afternoon tea will be available, so please come and join us for a fun afternoon. Proceeds will be divided between the church and hall.
