Weobley HIGH SCHOOL PROM - Year 11 leavers celebrated the end of year in style at Munstone House Hotel, Hereford. The event was organised by school president, Jack Ettinger and his prom committee led by Saffie Newman who had spent several months planning the event, fundraising and choosing a suitable venue. The theme this year was The Oscars. Oscar presentations were made to year 11 tutors with some special awards to individual teachers and pupils. Competition for the most unusual transport to the venue was won by John Lewis who transported his prom date, Amy, in a wheelbarrow. Jasmine Baldwin arrived by tractor, Ryan Hill in a golfing buggy and, not to be outdone, Molly Woodhead arrived in a balloon-covered lorry. Star performing vehicle was the 16 person stretch Hummer which experienced serious difficulty in navigating the narrow turning into the car park. In addition to the novelty transport there was an array of vintage cars and sports cars. Lucy Gray and India Edwards came in an Austin 7. The fairytale arrival was a flower strewn coach, carrying Katherine Milne and Sarah Hackley, pulled by two black horses. Star performers of the evening were the school rock band, featuring Chez Bexton on vocals, Miles Russell and Stanley Sinclair on guitar and Peter Catada on drums. Best dressed awards went to Lorraine German and Luke Griffiths. Dan Money and Holly Francis were crowned prom king and queen at the end of the night for their exuberant dancing.

BLIND FOOTBALL - June 28 we had two members of the England Blind football team Jon Pugh (coach) and Jon Heenan (player) come into school from RNCB to do a blind football training session with the Year 3 and Year 4 children as part of our Lloyds TSB Sports Week 2011. I have organised the week and decided to go down the paralympic sports route so the children in Y1 and 2 have done Goalball, Years 3 and 4 the blind football, Years 5 and 6 have done seated volleyball and all of Key Stage 2 have competed in a Boccia tournament. This way the children get to experience some of the lesser known paralympic sports for themselves and will hopefully cheer on Team GB in these events at 2012.
