VILLAGE FETE – This year it is being held on July 13 at Court Farm, courtesy of Elaine and Richard Andrews. The fete opens at 2.30pm, following a ceremony at 1.45pm when the village will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of Wergins Bridge which crosses the river on the Hereford to Sutton Road. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and procession to Court Farm led by a steamroller and vintage tractor.

HISTORY SOCIETY PRESENTATION - Next Monday, Marden History Society invites you to a presentation by Richard Jordan on Growing up in London during World War 2 His account of doodle bugs, ration books, dog fights in the sky and sleeping on the underground is not to be missed. His presentation will also include music of the time and over 150 photographs. Please come along to Marden Community Centre for 7.30pm. You will be most welcome. Visitors £2. Sutton School on June 10, 2pm-4pm. Sutton Fete, July 9, 2pm-5pm. Also at Woodville Grove communal hall, on a date to be confirmed, 2pm to 4pm.

FUEL - Firefighters tackled a fuel spillage in Sutton St Nicholas. A crew from Hereford was called to Marden Road just after 9pm last Thursday and helped prevent the diesel from entering the drainage system.

FAIR - Sutton Primary School is having a Christmas fair on Saturday,12.30pm to 3pm, in Sutton Village Hall. Visit Santa in his grotto. There will be a variety of stalls, children’s games and craft activities, hot pork and turkey rolls and mulled wine, afternoon teas and mince pies, and traders such as Phoenix cards, Mayfield Brewery, Cakes and Makes and jewellery. Admission free.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING - Herefordshire Council, in partnership with WM Housing, invites villagers to attend an information event at which officers will be present to answer questions about the Housing Need Survey and to discuss land opportunities for affordable housing in the area.

AN ECO CHRISTMAS - Children at Sutton St Nicholas Primary School have been exploring new ways to enjoy Christmas. Working alongside Tina Walton and Karen Meiklejohn from the Green Eyed Monster Co, children from reception to year six collected more than 60 plastic bottles to make a funky and creative recycled Christmas tree.

CHRISTMAS FAIR - Sutton School PTA is holding a Christmas fair at the school on Saturday, December 5, from noon until 3pm. There will be a variety of stalls, including cake stall, bottle stall, craft activities and games, Father Christmas grotto. There will be refreshments available, from mulled wine to turkey rolls and mince pies. We have fantastic raffle prizes, including a Christmas hamper and various gift vouchers. Entry is free.
