FETE AND STRAWBERRY TEA - Saturday at 2pm at the church, a fun afternoon for the whole family, tours of the bell tower, display of hand made puppets, arrangement of the Celtic cross church cushions and craft stalls, in the church. Other stalls including plant, bottle, bric-abrac, cake stall and games for all ages in a marquee. Bouncy castle and grand hamper draw at 4pm.

EASTER EGG HUNT - Come and join in an Easter egg hunt in the beautiful grounds of Treago Castle, HR2 8QB, on March 30, 1.30pm-4pm. The fun includes Easter craft activities, an Easter bonnet competition, bouncy castle, face painting, fun races and refreshments. Entry is £3 per egg hunter with proceeds going towards the new outdoor play area at Garway pre-school.

FETE AND GARDEN - The church fete is at Treago Castle (just off the A466) on Sunday 2pm-4.30pm. Family fun with stalls and children’s activities. A local team will demonstrate Zumba and there will be a rowing challenge. Tours of the castle and teas.

JUBILEE - The Diamond Jubilee celebrations in St Weonards on Monday are open to everyone. The event from noon-4pm on the school playing field has been organised by a whole village committee. There will be attractions including an obstacle type inflatable, wellie wanging, coconut shy, penny slot machines, tombola, skittles, barbecue, fancy dress competition open to all on the theme ‘Anything Royal’, mini Olympics, strawberry teas, tea dance, ice creams and bar.

PUDDINGS - St Weonards PTA and Preschool is holding a Pudding Tasting Evening tomorrow (Friday) at St Weonards Primary School. Everyone is welcome. The entrance fee is £5 to include a glass of wine and you can try as many puddings as you like.

TALK AND SLIDES - In the hall on Saturday at 8pm, Guy Homan, a member of the British Army team who climbed the West Ridge of Everest in 2006 tells his fascinating story (accompanied by slides) of this difficult climb. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 to include a ploughman’s supper. All proceeds go to CLIC Sargent, the charity for children affected by cancer. Bar applied for.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PIGEON - The children at St Weonards Primary School, first noticed the pigeon a week ago sitting on her eggs in the nest. The tree is situated on the veranda that leads from the school hall to the playground. The pigeon is not concerned at all about the noise at break times, children calling out to her and being watched. She happily sits there all day long.

FLOWER AND CRAFT FESTIVAL - A successful and very enjoyable weekend. Thanks to the brilliant flower arrangers the church was superb, and also thank you to all the craft stall holders for all their beautiful items. CARING for God’s Acre (CfGA), the national conservation charity for churchyards and burial grounds based in Herefordshire, is organising a challenge with the St Weonard’s churchyard group to record all the different species to be found in this ancient site over a day and night.

St Weonards Flower and Craft Festival will be held in St Weonards Church from 10am - 5pm on June 18 and 19.There will be a display of wedding gowns and christening robes as well as floral arrangements. A quarter peal attempt will begin 10am on Saturday to mark the opening of the festival. The church tower will be open for tours and ringing. There will be fete stalls in the churchyard including cakes, tombola, children’s games and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend. The village hall is the setting for a variety of local craft exhibits, demonstrations and sales including pottery, glass craft, beadwork, embroidery, photography and stick weaving. A concert on Saturday evening at 7pm features The Cantilena Duo, Kingstone High School Chamber Choir and other artists. Tickets £6 available from the village shop, Broad Oak Garage and Gillie Hallewell on 01981 580203. Songs of praise will end of the festival at 6pm on Sunday. The committee are looking for volunteers to help as stewards. SCHOOL - Simon Drew, managing director of Capital Cabins in Monmouth, presented St Weonards Primary School with a brand new football kit. Team captain Jack Fletcher accepted the kit and said: “We really love this new kit and we’ve got numbers on the back as well.” Headteacher David Thomas thanked Mr Drew on behalf of the school and said the team would be inspired to win by its new shirts.

EXHIBITION - During March, Richard Bavin is artist-in-residence in seven churches in Herefordshire including St Weonards. Many people came to draw with him on a sunny day at the beginning of March, and the charcoal drawings are now on show around the church. Come and see, and you will find art materials available to make your own drawing to add to the display.
