Presteigne cup final, pub quiz, exhibition, Youthfest 2012, music, coach trip, floral arts and more

CUP FINAL - Sunday sees the final of The Presteigne Otway Cup at Llanandras Park with a 2.30pm kick-off. This cup is one of the oldest senior cups around, dating back to 1897 and has been played for annually ever since. This year the finalists are Llandrindod Wells and Knighton Town.

PUB QUIZ - There will be a quiz at The Farmers Inn today (Thursday) at 7.30pm.

There will be prizes for the winning team.

Teams cost £5 for up to four members. To book a team call 267389. All proceeds will go to Presteigne’s Diamond Jubilee street party.

EXHIBITION - The Judge’s Lodgings is putting together its first community exhibition on sporting life in Presteigne and needs your help. Do you have any sporting memorabilia associated with the town, or short stories you would like to share? If you can help, please contact Dave or Gaby on 260650.

YOUTHFEST 2012 - There will be a Stars and Dreams weekend at St Andrew’s Church and hall from May 11-13. On May 11 from 5pm- 7pm there will be an exhibition of work. On May 12 there will be a craft workshop from 10am-12.30pm. Places are limited. From 11am-noon there will be a choral speaking workshop. At 2pm there will be a singing workshop and at 7pm there will be a concert, Share the Joy. On May 13 at 11am there will be a family service with a community tea at 3pm. To book a place on any of the workshops, or for further information, call 260466. This event is organised by Siren and supported by The Jerusalem Trust.

MUSIC - Stevie Yeomans and friends will be playing at the Farmer’s Inn on Saturday from 8pm. Everyone is welcome, admission free.

MUSIC - The newly formed band Kidnap Alice will play bluegrass and old time tunes at The Assembly Rooms on Friday from 8pm.

Admission £8. Please arrive early as seating is limited to allow for dance space.

COACH TRIP - The Royal British Legion Club is running its annual coach trip. This year the destination is Weston-super-Mare on May 6.

Members will pay £10, non-members £14.

FLORAL ARTS - The next meeting of Presteigne and Borders Floral Arts Society is at the Memorial Hall on May 9 from 7.30pm.

This month Toni Smith will give a demonstration entitled Fleurtation. This month’s competiton is a floral cushion design. Visitors are welcome. For details, call 01547 529244.

CONCERT - The Whitton Royal Variety Concert will take place on May 5 in Whitton Community Hall at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5.

FUN SESSIONS - There will be free fun sessions for eight to12-year-olds at the Scout Hut on Wednesdays during school term time from 3.30pm-5.30pm. For further details, call Nick Waller on 01547 825236.

PLANT SWAP - Transition Presteigne is having a plant swap during the farmers’ market at the memorial hall on May 5 from 9.30am- 1pm. If you have any seedlings or plants spare, bring them along and swap them. If you don’t have any to swap just come along and make a donation to have some. Flower or vegetable seeds are welcome. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The newly formed youth project needs volunteers urgently to help out at the twice-weekly club at the youth centre. If you can spare some time then please call James Tennant Eyles on 267363.

MUSIC - My Kind of Music featuring Rev Stephen Hollinghurst will take place at Kinsham Church this Saturday from 7.30pm.

Admission is £6 which includes a glass of wine. Everyone is welcome.

EXHIBITION - The exhibition In The Mind’s Eye features many local artists at The Barn at The Sidney Nolan Trust at The Rodd from May 5-7 from 11am-5pm daily. All proceeds will go to the Stonebow Unit in Hereford County Hospital.

FOOD TRAIL - Presteigne is hosting a new free summer festival – the Presteigne Food Trail – on June 16, and to encourage everyone in the area that loves cooking a countywide competition is being launched this week to find the best Radnorshire Recipe.

Whether a new creation or a traditional recipe, the group is looking for the best sweet or savoury dish that uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Prizes include a masterclass with the chef at the acclaimed Stagg Inn at Titley and a hamper bursting with local delicacies. The Stagg has always used the f local produce of this region including trout, soft fruits, vegetables, beef and of course game. It can tailor the day in the kitchen to suit the winner, but is bound to involve learning a few tricks of the trade. Entry forms for the Radnorshire Recipe competition can be picked up from Presteigne library or call 01544 262773. The four best ones will be cooked and judged at the Presteigne Food Trail on the day.
