BELLY DANCING - Women of all ages and abilities are enjoying evening classes full of eastern promise this autumn. Belly dancing is a fun way of meeting new friends, dressing up in gorgeous outfits and getting fit at the same time. Perfect for toning up tummies and getting the grey matter working by learning a new choreography each term. Abbie Mason is a qualified teacher, trained in ballet, jazz and belly dance and has been teaching oriental dancing for eight years.

BEER FESTIVAL AND FUN DAY - There is a beer festival and fun day with loads of live music at the football club on August 25, from 2pm. There will be a large selection of real ales, lagers and ciders to try as well as stalls, competitions, games, a funfair, over-40s’ football, ice creams, bouncy castles plus lots more family fun.

SPONSORED RIDE - Three cyclists from Presteigne - Sean Gundy, Steve Davies and Marcus Pilliner - are to do a sponsored cycle ride from Presteigne to Aberystwyth and back on Saturday and Sunday. The three will be raising money for the Wales Air Ambulance. The 61- mile each way ride will start on the Saturday and then they are going to camp in Aberystwyth for the night before riding back to Presteigne on the Sunday. The bikes they will be using will be donated by Drover Holiday’s in Hay-on-Wye but before the event they will be busy riding around local roads and lanes on their own bikes. They would like to raise at least £500. If anyone would like to sponsor them there are sponsor forms in many shops and businesses in Presteigne and Knighton or telephone Sean on 07779 194096.

FOOTBALL CLUB – There is a busy weekend ahead at Presteigne Football Club. On Saturday the first team entertain Abermule in The Spar Mid Wales League Div 2. Then on Sunday there are two cup finals. At 2.30pm Brecon will entertain either Knighton or Builth in the final of The Alfred Sparey Cup.

HISTORY GROUP - The next meeting of Byton, Combe, Kinsham and Stapleton History Group is on Wednesday at the Arkwright Hall in Kinsham. This month, Dr Keith Ray of Herefordshire Archaeology will talk on recent research on Offa’s Dyke in the Presteigne area. Admission is £3 which includes refreshments. Everyone is welcome. WARTIME - The Royal British Legion Club has its second annual D Day afternoon, Sandbags and Sirens, on Saturday from 2.30pm. There will be a traditional tea served at 4pm. Other activities going on will include a number of Second World War military vehicles on display along with music of the era led by singalong stars Tony Sullivan and Lenny. Local soloist Lisa Beaumont will perform a number of songs throughout the afternoon. The bar will be open and period dress for the occasion is optional. Admission is free but donations will be welcome.

FOOTBALL - Last weekend was the final day of Presteigne’s season. Presteigne’s French twin town Ligne visited for the weekend. On Sunday they joined Presteigne Under-18s and Llandrindod Under-18s for a mini tournament at Llanadras Park. The final was played in the evening for the Edwin Traylor Memorial Cup. Llandrindod beat Presteigne 3-0. Medals were presented by the late Edwin Traylor’s son Edward to all three competing clubs. Presteigne also hosted the final of the Otway Cup between Llandrindod Wells and Knighton Town. Llandrindod took a 2-0 advantage into half time, but Knighton fought back in the second half to score three goals to win 3-2. Man of the match was Connor Bird from Knighton.

CUP FINAL - The Presteigne Otway Cup Final, scheduled to be played on Sunday but postponed due to the weather, will now be played on May 20 with a 2.30pm kick-off between Knighton Town and Llandrindod Wells.

CUP FINAL - Sunday sees the final of The Presteigne Otway Cup at Llanandras Park with a 2.30pm kick-off. This cup is one of the oldest senior cups around, dating back to 1897 and has been played for annually ever since. This year the finalists are Llandrindod Wells and Knighton Town.
