Meanwhile, any residents of Felton, Ullingswick or Ocle Pychard who would be interested in joining a newly constituted parish council on a temporary basis ahead of new elections are asked to contact the clerk, Martin Field, on 01432 820074 or at email@example.com.

SAM MEREDITH - The funeral of Sam Meredith took place at St James’s Church, Ocle Pychard on August 30. It’s not often that a man is so loved, and so mourned, that even the churchyard is reduced to standing room only. He was mourned by his family, by his friends, and by farmers from across the county. In the parish council’s files there is a register containing the minutes of the very first Ocle Pychard Group parish council meeting in 1973. Sam was there that evening, and had been there ever since. He took a pride in attending meetings, always making a contribution, and was always very apologetic on the rare occasion that he couldn’t make it. Sam was 93 years old when he died. There have been other councillors, in other parts of the country, who have continued to serve after their 100th birthdays, but it is suspected that Sam was probably the oldest parish council member in Herefordshire. From the comments prepared by the family, and read by family friend Neil Wright and the Revd Jane Davies, there was obviously more to Sam than many people realised. He was a good and caring man who lived life to the full and did everything he could to help his friends, neighbours and anyone else who needed him.
