CAROL SERVICE - On Sunday at 4pm there will be a delightful service of carols and readings, with children in the congregation helping to assemble the nativity scene. This service is followed with mince pies and sherry.

Monkland autumn show, hall redecoration, bingo and coffee morning

AUTUMN SHOW - Monkland Autumn show will take place on Saturday, in the village hall. Exhibits staged between 9.30-11am and the show opens to the public at 2.30pm. There are 83 categories to choose from for your entry with schedules available from Wendy on 720265.

JULY FETE - The Monkland village fete was forced to transfer its venue at the last minute due to adverse weather conditions - from the Beeches to the village hall, but this did not deter or dampen the spirits of the many visitors who attended. Vicar, Christine Mundell opened the proceedings and Lucy Williams presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Trade was brisk on all stalls and refreshments enjoyed by all. Skittles, face painting and fishing the duck out of the pond proved popular, together with a delightful fairground organ playing all afternoon. The iced cake was won by Dr Jenny Barnes; bottle of whiskey by Dee Griffiths and name the scarecrow, by Olive Goodwin. An amazing total raised for church funds reached £1,110, special thanks from the vicar and the PCC goes to all stallholders and visitors alike with extra special thanks to Harry Jancey and Cyril Griffiths for all their behind the scenes works.

Monkland fete, Macmillian and autumn show

FETE - The annual village fete is on Saturday at 2pm at The Beeches, by kind permission of Mrs Porter. Various stalls on show such as cake, books, white elephant and bottle, also face painting, skittles, home-made teas and ice-cream. Pop along and join in the fun and games with background music from a fairground organ.

Monkland Village Hall annual meeting

Monkland VILLAGE HALL - At the annual meeting Wendy Jancey was re-elected as chairman and Sally Watkins as treasurer. The committee were elected en-bloc with a new member, Holly Watkins. The chairman welcmed Holly and hopes she will be a member for as long as her grandmother, the late Elsie Underhill who served for over 40 years. Many clubs use the hall on a weekly basis. The hall will be 21 years old this year and has continued to be very well used by various organisations proving a success for all.

SPRING SHOW - The 25th annual spring show was held in the village hall. Twentynine people entered items and the event was very well supported by villagers on the day.

SPRING SHOW - The Monkland Spring Show is in the village hall on Saturday. The show has been running for 25 years and there is much talk about who will win the Lewis Perpetual Cup for the domestic section. All exhibit entries to be staged between 9.30am and 11am, then the show is open to the public for viewing and trophies from 2.30pm. Come and have a cup of tea or coffee and support this long-running event.
