CONCERT - A concert of Handel’s arias from his operas and oratorios and some of his fine organ music will take place at St Michael and All Angels Church, Lyonshall, on October 14, at 7.30pm. Elisabeth Priday - soprano with Roger Judd - organist. For more information and to reserve your seats please telephone Bo Hollingshurst 01544 340788. Tickets £10 and £5, to include a glass of wine, will also be available at the door. All proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the church bells.

Lyonshall bell ringers

BELL RINGERS - The Lyonshall bellringers are continuing to fund-raise for the refurbishment of the bells in the church of St Michael and All Angels, and will be running the Kington community shop in Kington High Street from tomorrow (Friday) to August 5. Do come and visit us, we have many items of interest for sale. On August 15, we are having a whist drive in the Lyonshall village hall, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm. All welcome.

Lyonshall parish history

PARISH HISTORY - Lyonshall parish council has invited Dr Keith Ray, and his team from Herefordshire county council archaeology department, to present a talk in the Lyonshall memorial hall on June 23, at 7.30pm. The talk will aim to cover the history from the identification of the deserted medieval village site in around 1995 to its recent substantial destruction, including time-lines, and the plans and efforts to arrange statutory or other protection of what remains. The talk will also cover other parish historical assets including the castle, the horse-drawn tramway, Offa's Dyke, the church and more. Full details can be seen on www.lyonshall.net.

Lyonshall affordable housing

AFFORDABLE HOUSING - Herefordshire Council in partnership with South Shropshire Housing Association invites villagers to attend a consultation event at Lyonshall Village Hall next Thursday, May 12, 2.30pm to 6.30pm, to view and discuss plans for a proposed affordable housing development on land adjacent to The Close. There will be an opportunity to record everyone’s views on the design and layout of the scheme.

CONCERT - On April 30, Lyonshall Bellringers have organised a concert in the church of St Michael and All Angels in aid of the church bell restoration fund. The Village Quire, with actor Phil Smith, will perform High Days and Holidays Along the Welsh Border, “an atmospheric evening of unaccompanied harmonies and readings to transport you back to life in the 18th and 19th centuries”, Tickets, to include a glass of wine/juice, are £7.50 in advance from Bo on 01544 340788 or £8 on the door.

Lyonshall charity bridge club

CHARITY BRIDGE CLUB - The club year concludes with a bridge drive at Lyonshall Memorial Hall on April 19 at 7pm. As a result of club activity in the last 12 months in excess of £3,000 will be donated to the nominated charities: Midlands Air Ambulance, Stroke Association and Home Start. CURRY NIGHT - On Sunday the Lyonshall bellringers are organising a curry night at the Royal George Inn, 7pm for 7.30pm, in aid of St Michael and All Angels Bell Restoration Fund.
