CONCERT - The Black Hill Country Style concert held in Longtown village hall on October 1, was a great success raising over £600 to be shared between the school and village hall. At this event Joyce Hvaas was presented with flowers and a gift on her retirement from running the Discovery club for children over the past twenty one years.

OFSTED - The pre-school at Longtown Community primary school has received a very good Ofsted report confirming the excellent practice and environment in which the children are flourishing. Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers.

ART EXHIBITION - An art exhibition showing a collection of drawings and paintings by Joyce and Kamma Hvass will take place on Saturday, October 23, from 10am to 1pm and 2-5pm and again on Sunday, October 24, from 2-5pm at the Ferns Annexe opposite the Longtown outdoor centre.

SING - Village Quire Workshop takes place on Wednesday, October 20, at 7.30pm at Newton church. Learn how to sing in harmony in the West Gallery and folk style. No experience needed. Tickets £4. This will be followed by a concert on Saturday, October 23, at 7.30pm, in St Margaret's church, Newton. Tickets will be £8. Combined ticket for concert and workshop is £11.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - At Escleyside hall, Michaelchurch on October 20, will present ‘The Hide’ PG15 which is set in Suffolk and involves a police manhunt.

Tickets on the door - £4 adults, £2.50 children. Doors open at 7.30pm and lights down at 8pm.
