TIDYING UP - The Village Pride group will meet on Saturday, January 30, from10am to noon at Broome’s garden to begin the annual programme of tidying up around the village. All volunteers are welcome.

WHIST DRIVE - There will be a whist drive on Tuesday starting at 7.45pm in Escleyside Hall, Michaelchurch.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - At Escleyside Hall, Michaelchurch, on Wednesday, January 20, Bill Nighy and Kenneth Branagh star in The Boat that Rocked, a really enjoyable film. Tickets on the door are £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children and doors open at 7.30pm and lights down at 8pm. For further information, call 01981 510696.

LONGTOWN SCHOOL - Children and parents raised almost £250 last half term for charity and also collected shoeboxes for the shoebox appeal.

The pantomime Snow White was a big success and much enjoyed by families and the community. Sadly the preschool had to say goodbye to Angela and Janet at the end of term. They both had contributed enormously to the lives of so many pre-school children and this was recognised at their leaving party on December 15. Diane Fawcett and Emily Lord have been appointed as the new pre-school leaders this month and we wish them every success.

VILLAGE HALL - The hall is benefitting from a programme of small improvements.

The roof insulation is now up to standard and there are new doors and curtains in place. Decorating has begun and the refurbishment of the kitchen is at the planning stage at last.
