LETTON CHURCH - Work on the tower of Letton church has been completed and amendments to water drainage are well under way. There will now be a break in building works until the autumn for the bats to enjoy their breeding season and the balmy summer evenings. Our small band are girding our loins, consulting our recipe books and will, as usual, serve cakes, teas and bric-a-brac to friends and visitors from 2.30pm to 5pm from Sunday, July 25, until Sunday, August 29. Come and admire our renovated tower and bring your friends to enjoy an afternoon in a grade I-listed church that was already established by the time of the Domesday Book.

CHURCH - With regard to the west wall and other repair work, the end of the first stage has now been achieved and the contractors are selected, with work beginning on Saturday. It is expected that the church will be able to remain open. As can be imagined, over the last year of financial crisis some of the charities to which we have applied have not had the funds they may have had in previous years so now the fundraising begins in earnest. The first event will be held in the Swan Inn on March 19, at 7.30pm, when Mary Rhodes, a BBC presenter and journalist, will discuss her experiences behind the scenes at the BBC. Mary is a local girl brought up in Weobley and has kindly donated her time to support Letton Church. Tickets at £7.50 each include a hot supper. Phone 01544 327268 to book. All are welcome.

LETTON CHURCH - An update on the west wall of Letton Church. The planning for the repairs is proceeding with some applications for grants being successful and the faculties applied for. We still need to raise more money and Letton Church Christmas fair will be held on Saturday from 11am to 2pm with gifts, Christmas decorations, mistletoe and holly, a raffle and the usual entertainment. A candlelit carol service on Sunday, December 20, will be led by the Rev Terry Ransom and supported by the Hereford Church Singers. We hope you can join us and help rock the rafters (if not the west wall). After Gary Bluett’s Cathedral Quest solo cycle ride around the cathedrals of England, Scotland and Wales, more than £2,200 has been passed on to Macmillan Cancer Support and a similar amount to the Letton PCC Building Fund. Thanks particularly to Gary and all of you who supported him.
