Food and Craft Market in Knighton

FOOD AND CRAFT MARKET - The food and craft market has Christmas in mind with live music from Rick Harrowing this Saturday and the Llanfair Singers (choir) on December 17.

This month there will be a lot more stalls and items to choose from. You can check out the stall bookings at www.kfcmarket.com CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING - St Edward’s church members and friends will be holding their Christmas Coffee Morning in the church hall this Saturday December starting at 10am. At the same time and for the whole weekend the church will be open for the Christmas tree festival.

COMMUNITY CAROL SERVICE - The annual Knighton and District Churches together community carols will take place at Knighton Community Centre next Tuesday at 7.30pm.

During the evening there will be music from Knighton Town Silver band, hand bell ringers of all ages and singing or entertainment from Teme Spirits, Knighton Primary School choir and the Methodist Church Choir. Tea and coffees will be served by members of Tref-y- Clawdd WI and Mince pies served by members of Knighton Brownies. A collection taken during the event will go to the Air Ambulance.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT - There will be a Christmas Concert by Knighton Town Silver Band this Saturday at St. Edward's Church 7pm.

This will be the first Christmas Concert given by the Band in many years.

There will also be opportunities for the audience to join in with well-known carols.

All proceeds will be divided between Knighton Band and St Edward’s Church .

Tickets from church wardens or pay on the door £6.

St Edward’s Church 9.30am Holy Communion Rev John greaves; St David’s Church, Whitton no service this week; St Andrew’s Church, Norton 11.00am Morning worship led by John Clements; St Michael’s Church, Cascob Carol service Rev John Hanna.

WELLIES AND WOOLLIES - Friday, December 16, 7pm the annual Wellies and Woollies service at Pilleth Church.

WHIST DRIVE - At the latest whist drive organised by Knighton’s lady bowlers held in the bowling club winners were: Best lady Doreen Bowen, 2 Sheila Jones, 3 Shirley Moorhouse and lowest lady Linda Parker.

First gent Reg Bowen, 2 Robert Jones, 3 Sue Price and lowest gent Allan Brick. Raffle winners were Jean Burgoyne, Allan Brick, Joyce Hughes and Shirley Moorhouse. Prizes were presented by Lilian Bennett, M.C. was Shirley Moorhouse and thanks were given by Linda Parker MBE. The next whist drive will be on December 15, starting at 7.30pm. All welcome.

SING FOR FUN - There will be sing for fun session with Marion Rowlatt at the church hall, Knighton on Friday, December 16, starting at 10.30am.

DONATION - Ricky and Gan Morris from Bleddfa lost their tiny baby, Robbie in January 2010. Donations given at the funeral were used by the couple to build a fence around a nursery school at a Buddhist temple in Gan’s home village Pran Udom in North East Thailand. A sign in Thai and English was erected saying that the fence was paid for by money raised in memory of Atichon Robbie Morris. Further donations were made instead of birthday presents resulting in £750. The money was presented to the Knighton First Responders by Gan on behalf of the couple at their last meeting.

Brian Jones thanked the couple for their generous donation.

BAG PACKERS - Members of Kington’s St John Ambulance cadets raised £114 packing bags for customers at the Co-op in Kington on Saturday morning. Susan Woodhall, staff member at St John, thanked the Co-op and their customers for all their help and support.

The money will be used to help St John to continue to provide a service in the area and to buy essential equipment.

PRESENTATION - At the annual Kinsham community lunch, £500 was presented to Alan Lloyd for the Macmillan Renton Unit in Hereford. The money was raised at the village's annual tractor run and the classics of yesteryear show. Before the lunch began there was a minute's silence for Eddie Taylor from Presteigne who passed away just a few days before. Eddie was a regular exhibitor at the classics show for many years.
