12:00pm Thursday 20th October 2011 in Knighton
THIRTY-five boys from Knighton Primary School spent the night in the school hall to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The sleepover was organised by the Knighton Primary School Moonwalkers: Ann Taylor, Vanessa Gibbons, Mandy Evans, Edith Wood, Pauline Vogel and Lyle Gilmore who is taking the place of Kirsty Dewhurst until she returns from Australia.
These six members of staff have so far raised over £8,000 in three years for the charity. They started by doing the Moonwalk in London, then they held a sleepover for the girls in the school, they have done the refreshments at a sheepdog trials and other fund raising events.
Each child taking part in the sleepover donated money, and Tuffins donated the Moonwalkers a cheque for £300 to swell their funds.
Ann Taylor thanked Tuffins Store manager David Morris for the money and sponsors JD’s Café for the sausages, and all the parents and members of staff who made cakes and gave donations.
On the night of the sleepover before bed all the children and members of staff went out on the school field where they lit camp fires and cooked hot dogs and marshmallows, drank hot chocolate and played games in the dark.
In the morning the children were given a light breakfast before going home.
