Leominster CINEMA - Leominster’s cinema season continues with three films presented by the Borderlines Film Festival on March 10, 11 and 12, in the Lion Ballroom, Broad Street. On Wednesday, Creation will be shown, the fascinating story of Charles Darwin’s controversial life with the publication of his theory of evolution.
Thursday brings Dorian Gray (15) to the big screen, featuring a beautiful but naïve young man who arrives in Victorian London and comes under the influence of the charismatic corrupter Henry Wotton, played by Colin Firth.
He is introduced to the seedier side of society, and sells his soul for the pleasures of eternal youth. This adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic has a strong affinity with today’s adulation of celebrity, obsession with youth and beauty, and pursuit of individual gratification.
The Friday film is Up (U), which will appeal to all ages, with its story-line of a boy scout, and a grumpy old man who finally achieves his life-long ambition of floating away in his house, under thousands of balloons. There will be a refreshment interval each evening, and it is advisable to book seats (£4.50, students £4) at Gill’s Gifts, The Arcade, on 01568 611588.
Each film starts at 7.30pm.
