ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR - An action day to tackle anti-social behaviour and help keep Knighton’s streets safe will take place this month. Dyfed- Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Keep Wales Tidy and other groups will be at the community centre from 2pm on March 23 to meet residents and answer questions.
The Powys Community Safety Partnership (CSP) organised the event to highlight various activities available in the area, alongside crime tackling strategies currently in place. Chairman Councillor Graham Brown said: “This action day will give residents a chance to make a real difference in their local community and they will be able to get advice and guidance from partners involved in the CSP.”
MURDER MOST INTERESTING - Students were presented with an ageold problem on a cross-curriculum day recently. Year eight pupils from Lady Hawkins School took part in Murder in the Monastery and spent the day translating Middle English and applying scientific approaches to come up with a solution to the demise of ancient monk Abbot John. They also took on roles of various monastic personnel, from the gatekeeper to Brother Ambrose, and inspected soil samples, took impressions of key clues and examined DNA to get the job done. Pupil Caite Muldowney said: “I thought the day was interesting and I learned a lot. It was definitely worth missing lessons.”
Connie Talbot added: “Loads of clues led us to various suspects, but then it all pieced together.”
