KADOS - The group be performing its final summer charity concert this year on August 31 at St Michael's Church, Munslow, near Craven Arms at 7.30pm. This will be a Gilbert and Sullivan evening with songs from The Pirates of Penzance, Trial by Jury, HMS Pinafore and other favourite Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

TEME VALLEY VINTAGE RALLY – The annual Teme Valley Vintage Club rally will take place tomorrow (Friday) at Llanshay Farm, Knighton, by permission of Mr and Mrs P Price and family. At the event there will be displays and a parade of vintage tractors, lorries, cars and motorcycles. There will also be a display by local axe men, ferret racing, an organ, refreshments, a bar and other attractions.

KINGTON LADIES HOCKEY CLUB CAR WASH – Hockey girls from Kington will be making a splash this weekend at a car wash event in a bid to raise funds for the club. The car wash will take place at the Co-Op car park on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

CELEBRATION - Kington Multipurpose Day Centre will be celebrating its 30th anniversary at its usual weekly venue on September 27 at Markwick Close. GALA DAY - Due to the cancellation of the Kington Gala Day on June 16, the Kington Lions duck race did not take place. Since many ducks were sold in advance of the event, a draw was undertaken during the last business meeting. A member of the public drew three tickets in the bar of the Burton Hotel and the winners were: £100 J Drysdale, £50 Julia Vore, £25 David Parry.

MARCHES ACCESS POINT - Marches Access Point (MAP) is a community group which provides on-line access, education and training facilities, office services and resources for local groups and individuals. Based at The Old Police Station, MAP has recently been awarded European Social Fund monies to run a programme named New Directions. It offers support and guidance to those people in Kington and the surrounding area who receive incapacity benefit, are carers, work less than eight paid hours per week and/or are unemployed. CHORAL SOCIETY - More than 130 singers of all ages gathered for an afternoon choral singing workshop organised by Kington Choral Society (KCS) at St Mary’s Church, under the baton of its director of music, Roger Langford. This was followed by an evening performance of Faure’s Requiem Singers attended from as far away as Brecon and Gloucester for the charity event which raised money for Homestart (Kington), the Alzheimer’s Society’s Singing for the Brain project – which is run in Herefordshire by Roger – and the KCS Artist Fund. There are further fund-raising events organised for later in the year. Watch this space for details.

MUSIC - You are invited to come and sing of Faure’s Requiem at St Mary’s Church in Kington on March 31. Registration is at 2.30pm with a workshop from 3-5pm with Kington Choral Society music director Roger Langford. There will then be a performance at 7pm. Singers will cost £10 with free entry to the concert at 7pm. There will be a collection with the proceeds going to local charities.

ST MARY’S HANDBELL RINGERS - Members recently held their annual meeting at The Burton Hotel. In 2011, the ringers had a busy but enjoyable year and took part in church services and Kington Gala Day. A mini rally was held in Kington and other teams were invited to join the music making and friendship.
