AFRICAN EVENING - The Cage Brook parishes' African evening will take place in Eaton Bishop Village Hall from 7pm on Saturday, to raise money for the Hegongo School in Tanzania (the school sponsored by the Abbeydore Deanery). A Tanzanian-style meal will be served, and African-style clothing will be worn by those who are able. A few hymns in the Swahili language are being performed by a ‘choir’ of local volunteers.

HOMES PLAN - Kingstone and Thruxton Group Parish Council reviewed the 196 representations made on the Herefordshire Council planning website relating to the Archihaus planning proposal for 150 houses in Kingstone – applciation 130351/F.

PARISH COUNCIL – The Kingston and Thruxton group Parish Council met on April 17 when questions were raised by villagers about the appeal lodged by the developer against Herefordshire County Council’s refusal to grant planning permission for land at the rear of Whitehouse Drive. The parish council will send a further letter to the Secretary of State opposing the development with some additional information as part of the appeal process.

THE student stars of Kingstone High School were out in force at the spring concert to mark the end of an era. Claire Sheppard, after 11 years as music teacher, was leaving to take up a promoted position at a school in Worcestershire. To celebrate this, the audience was treated to a fantastic performance from both current and former students who came back to join in and pass on their thanks for the inspiration and enthusiasm shown by Mrs Sheppard over the years. Performances were given by the school choir, the Samba Band, duets, soloists, singers, instrumentalists, boy band DASL and the girl band Sparkle. The quality of performance was of an exceptional standard, matched only by the enthusiasm of all the performers.

EARTHQUAKE - Victims of the Haiti disaster got a helping hand when staff and toddlers from Little Acorns in Kingstone held a sponsored walk for the appeal. The group swapped the classroom for a trek around the high school sports field.

EASTER FAIR - The Easter FaIr will be held in the village hall on Saturday beginning at noon. Light lunches of soup and rolls will be available, together with hot cross buns, tea and coffee. HIGH SCHOOL - After a gruelling selection procedure, the head boy and head girl positions at Kingstone High School have been awarded to Scott Cameron and Katie Hanks. Scott and Katie were among seven Year 11 students with multiple nominations from staff. Scott and Katie will be supported by deputy head boy Jack Bruten and deputy head girl Megan Gillespie.
